In honor of our very own USA independence, I think it would be appropriate to talk about the "topic" of independence in the world of good ole' technology.
Remember the days where we had to use whatever software was available?  Windows, whatever was installed on our phones, whatever Microsoft or Apple was giving us? 

Ya, I remember those days too!  Well of course, those days are long gone with a "PHENOMENON" known as open architecture or open source software.   You know,  we don't have Microsoft of Apple to thank for this either.

We actually have those wonderful community people that decided themselves on projects that have changed the way people do business, changed the world...oh ya and did I mention that these community people would be distributing extrodinary software at no cost!  Although we can argue that Technology in and of it self is impossible to keep up with...I give the "world" it's credit for allowing us   to keep up.... by distributing software that is open source and at no charge.   Wordpress, Joomla, Drupal, DotNetNuke, PHPNuke, Open Office...just to name a few.  All at no charge and EXTREMELY effective for small to medium business, nonprofit organizations and even enterprise level business.  I often have argued that a company could operate purely off of non-commercial software.   It's true :).   (Note: Nothing is free, someone paid for it!)

What made YouTube great?  The Content.  What made MySpace and FaceBook great?  The Content.   Well, what makes the IPAD, IPOD, IPHONE, GOOGLE Phone, ANYHING special today?  The Content again, which can be openly contributed and distributed via the community.   We don't have Apple or Microsoft to thank, other then for providing a nice little pad for us allto hang out at.  "We the people" are bringing the potluck; the beverages; the fun to the party... We are the ones that are really making it happen now!
